Hi. I'm Mary Lou MacIlvaine, Ph.D.
I am a San Diego-based psychologist specializing in holistic orgone therapy and mind-body health.
I'm someone you can trust. I love meeting people and getting to know them. Over the years, I've helped many people find relief from emotional pain, and get more pleasure and gratification from life. I respect the importance and privacy of what people tell me.
What's special about me is my ability to tune into people's situations -- and my empathy. In addition, I have good contact, which is the ability to make a genuine, all-wavelength connection with people and situations. I read people well and can talk to the deepest parts of a person. I understand human nature and the difficulties people get into. I've had tragedies myself and have learned a lot from my life experiences, aside from my education and professional training.
So here's the professional part: I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist (CA 14409). I got my BA from UC Berkeley, with Phi Beta Kappa honors. I'm a member of Mensa. My doctoral work was at California School of Professional Psychology in Fresno, now Alliant University. I've been practicing since 1989.

Since receiving my Ph.D., I've continued studying the mind body connection. I completed a four-year post-doctoral program in Gestalt Therapy and a six-year post-doctoral program in Integrated Body Psychotherapy, ending by becoming a Certified Teacher of Integrated Body Psychotherapy ("IBP"), an approach somewhat similar to Orgone Therapy. I have also studied the Crucible Approach with David S. Schnarch, PhD, who is widely considered the leading international expert on sex therapy. I've taken every class he offers and had many hours of private consultations with him. Once, he gave me a compliment by calling me "the healthy one."
During 2005, I completed a full-year course in Anatomy and Physiology at Grossmont College.
These seminars focus on life energy, health, and efforts to extend the research in orgonomy. I have my own private practice and work holistically, approaching psychological and general health issues from a mind-body perspective.
Let me recommend some other good links: The American College of Orgonomy, The Wilhelm Reich Museum, which is a good source for books, and Orgonics.com, a source for energy accumulators.
I am an active member of the California Psychological Association, the American Psychological Association, and the San Diego Psychological Association (SDPA). I am honored to be listed in the National Register of Psychologists. My private practice is located in Kensington, central to San Diego. In my spare time, I enjoy cooking, photography, pottery, choral singing, and getting together with friends . I love art, such as combining words and photographs, as you see on these pages.
